Manchester City could yet be coming up against Kevin De Bruyne in Premier League action next season, with a new proposal on the table for the Belgian.

The 33-year-old has already confirmed his pending exit from the Etihad Stadium after 10 years with the club, having held talks – albeit without negotiation – with Manchester City officials over the next steps in his career.

De Bruyne’s contract with the club is due to expire this summer and given the extent of officials’ planned rebuild, a decision was taken to relinquish the Belgium international of his duties and reallocate his salary pack to new recruits.

The task of replacing the legendary creative midfielder is certainly a mammoth challenge for incoming sporting director Hugo Viana, with it currently believed that Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz is the priority.

But what next for Kevin De Bruyne in his own career?

Since the announcement of his pending Manchester City exit landed across social media channels, the iconic midfielder has most commonly been linked with a move to the United States with numerous sides interested.

Now, according to the information of Gianluca Di Marzio, Serie A giants Napoli are ‘seriously trying’ to sign Kevin De Bruyne ahead of the new season, while ‘banking on the great relationship’ between the Manchester City captain and their striker, Romelu Lukaku.

As part of the same report, it is pointed out that the 33-year-old wants to remain in European football and it is remarkably claimed that the player also has an offer on the table from Liverpool.

De Bruyne has already hinted that he would be open to an extended stay in English football, as he stated when quizzed on the idea last month, “Honestly, I don’t know. It could be [the end of his career in England], it could be not.”

“It’s very hard because the decision of leaving has not been that long [ago] so nothing can be decided in a week. And also in the football world, I don’t think everything comes in a week. It goes very slowly.”

The Manchester City captain continued, “I’ve not even seen my family since the announcement. So I need to speak [with them] and I need to see whatever team wants me, so I don’t know, I have no idea, so we’ll see.”

For now, The Chicago Fire are being most commonly discussed as the leading suitor for De Bruyne despite competitive interest from Inter Miami, New York City FC, and D.C. United in Major League Soccer.
