Juventus head coach Thiago Motta couldn’t hide his excitement following a superb 2-0 home victory against Manchester City. Goals from Dusan Vlahovic and Weston McKennie inspired the Bianconeri to a potentially season-defining UEFA Champions League win.
“Well done to everyone; today we also recovered some players, so kudos to our medical staff and those responsible for performance. Those who came on helped the team.“
In addition to hailing his entire Juventus line-up, Motta particularly praised Teun Koopmeiners and McKennie.
“Weston can do everything. It’s difficult to take Koopmeiners off the pitch because he orients the team and conveys what we need on the field,” the Juventus manager continued.
“Weston has extraordinary physicality, great technique, and when he arrives from the second line, he’s even more dangerous, as we saw today and against PSV. We’re fortunate to have quality players who provide alternatives during matches, and I’m happy for him that he came on well.“
Juventus headed into the match amid a rotten patch, having drawn four consecutive games in all competitions, including a 2-2 home stalemate against fellow Serie A rivals Bologna last weekend. Man City’s visit was supposed to deepen the crisis.
However, Juventus passed the challenge with flying colors, pouring more misery on Pep Guardiola’s beleaguered side. Indeed, they pulled off a crucial triumph to increase their chances of securing automatic knockout qualification.
