Juventus have officially confirmed the arrival of Jonathan David, the Canadian forward completing his move to Turin on a five-year deal running until June 2030, according to Tutto Juve, Bianconera News, and JNetwork24. David joins from Lille after five prolific seasons in Ligue 1, where his record of 109 goals and 30 assists in 232 appearances has made him one of Europe’s most sought-after attackers.
The 24-year-old becomes Juventus’ first major signing of the summer transfer window under new coach Igor Tudor, and arrives amid significant anticipation from supporters. The club presented him with a video tribute marking his “Iceman” nickname, while over 200 fans gathered outside the club’s medical centre as he completed his medical and contract signing.
David’s career trajectory, as outlined in the club’s official statement, has been marked by steady progression and tangible success. Born in Brooklyn to Haitian parents and raised in Ottawa, the striker began his professional career with Gent, where he scored 37 times in 83 matches and finished as top scorer of the Belgian league in 2019/20. After moving to Lille in 2020, he hit double figures in every Ligue 1 season, notably contributing to the club’s 2020/21 French title and the subsequent Supercup win.
For the Canadian national team, David has delivered at international level as well: 35 goals in 66 appearances since debuting in 2018, including two on his first cap. Those numbers reflect his presence as both a consistent scorer and a player able to contribute in big moments.
Upon signing, David spoke to Juventus’ media, reflecting on the significance of the move: “It’s an honour. Growing up, I admired Juventus and thought of it as one of the top ten clubs in the world,” he said. “I love scoring and being at the centre of the play. My biggest strength is finding spaces and being in the right place at the right time. Playing in Serie A is a challenge I look forward to—adapting to a new league, new team-mates, and aiming to win.”
David also pointed to the significance of being the first Canadian to wear Juventus colours, expressing a desire to pave the way for more talented compatriots in the future. He signalled his ambitions clearly: “I hope to have an excellent season and do whatever I can to help us win trophies.”
The structure of the transfer sees Juventus paying €12.5 million in fees, spread over three years. David's arrival addresses a primary objective for Juventus management to refresh their attacking options, with further moves in the market expected as the club aims to bolster its competitive edge.
