Jonathan David is set to become Juventus’ new number nine after the club booked his medical examinations for Friday in Turin. The imminent arrival of the Canadian striker follows a swift progression in negotiations, with final contractual details resolved overnight, according to Tutto Juve, Bianconera News, and JNetwork24.
Sources confirm that David, who leaves Lille as a free agent, will sign a five-year contract binding him to Juventus until 2030. With this move, David is poised to be the first significant signing under technical director Damien Comolli.
The club increased efforts to close the deal immediately after their exit from the Club World Cup, shifting focus to refresh an attacking unit in transition. David’s consistent output in Ligue 1 played a major part in Juventus’ decisive approach. During his five seasons at Lille, the 24-year-old scored 109 goals in 223 matches, averaging a goal every other game. In the last three campaigns, his scoring tally stood at 25, 26, and 26 goals respectively. On the continental stage, he recorded 10 goals in 18 Champions League appearances. His versatility and reliability make him a natural fit for Juve’s ambition to field a dynamic, mobile centre-forward.
Former teammate Vito Mannone, speaking to Radio Sportiva, called David a “modern striker who can do everything, from pressing to finishing and linking play with the team.” Mannone added, “He’s averaged 25 goals per season over the last five years—a rare find. He’s a true penalty-box striker but also connects well with the rest of the attack.”
Juventus intensified talks with David’s representatives in the hours following their Club World Cup defeat to Real Madrid. Club insiders, as cited by Spazio J, view his arrival as a vital step in enhancing both the depth and quality of the frontline.
While David's signing is expected to be the start of a broader attacking overhaul, it does not rule out further high-profile arrivals. Negotiations continue over other targets, but internally the view is that David’s profile—a proven, reliable goalscorer used to playing in a demanding environment—addresses a priority need with immediate effect.
David is due at the JMedical facility on Friday, after which he’s set to officially sign his five-year contract and be announced as Juventus’ latest forward addition.
