According to Mundo Deportivo, the German goalkeeper has refused to give consent to share his post-surgery medical report with La Liga’s medical committee.

This document is essential for the club to classify his injury as a long-term absence and unlock financial relief under fair play rules.

With Ter Stegen’s consent missing, Barcelona cannot use 80% of his salary towards creating the fair play margin, which would allow them to register new signing Joan Garcia.

The club hoped to use the goalkeeper’s long-term injury, possibly lasting five months or more, to justify the salary adjustment.

However, under data protection laws, the player’s approval is required before his medical information can be sent to La Liga.

Barcelona could launch disciplinary action

It is to be noted that Barça had planned to speak directly with Ter Stegen once the team returns from the pre-season tour.

They even messaged him with a request for a meeting to explain the situation and ask for his cooperation. However, his response was clear that he did not want to sign.

The club was caught off guard by his stance, especially since no previous player in a similar situation has refused to share their medical details with La Liga.

This refusal has now led the club to involve its legal team, who have been asked to assess the situation and possibly start disciplinary proceedings.

If legal experts recommend it and the board agrees, Ter Stegen could face internal sanctions.

While Barcelona acknowledges the player’s right to privacy, they also stress that being part of the club includes responsibilities.

If the refusal is found to cause serious sporting or financial harm, especially to teammates like Joan Garcia, the club may take further steps to protect its interests.
