A new report from Germany has detailed what the future could hold for RB Leipzig and Spain attacking midfielder Dani Olmo, with Manchester City’s Josko Gvardiol involved.
Manchester City are widely expected to strengthen in their midfield ranks this summer, with a number of names having already been linked with varying levels of interest from Etihad Stadium recruitment officials.
West Ham United’s Lucas Paqueta is expected to see renewed interest from the Premier League champions following a failed move last summer, whilst Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes could yet be subject to conversations.
Talk of arrivals comes as Manchester City face continued uncertainty over the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva, with the latter widely understood to be interested in an exit from the club for a fourth successive market.
Now, the latest report has linked Manchester City with transfer interest in Germany, and a name that could be swayed towards a move to the north-west of England through his personal relations with a current member of Pep Guardiola’s squad.
According to the information of BILD, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, Dani Olmo is now doubtful for RB Leipzig’s final fixture of this season, having seemingly now made his last appearance for the club as ‘signs point to farewell’ in the upcoming summer window.
Manchester City and Barcelona are said to be among the interested parties, however unsurprisingly, the La Liga club will not be able to activate the player’s €60 million Leipzig release clause due to their ongoing financial restraints.
In a huge boost to those wanting to see Olmo make the move to the Etihad Stadium, the report claims that the 26-year-old’s preference is to move to England, where Pep Guardiola’s side ‘in particular are very interested’.
Olmo is ‘close friends’ with his former RB Leipzig teammate and now Manchester City star Joško Gvardiol, and BILD claim that the pair have already spoke over the Spain international’s possible arrival at the Premier League club.
For now though, it is clarified that neither Dani Olmo’s representatives or RB Leipzig have received any concrete signal from Manchester City of a willingness to trigger his release clause, despite the Bundesliga club ‘still preparing for a departure’.
Olmo has endured a mixed campaign with RB Leipzig, having missed large portions of the campaign through injury, including both meetings with Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League group stage.
In the outings that Olmo has managed to secure, the Spaniard has been productive in front of goal, providing eight goals and five assists across his 25 appearances in all competitions, amounting to 1,715 minutes of on-field action.
