PSV Eindhoven are reportedly weighing up a late swoop for Manchester United star Joshua Zirkzee.

United make stance on Zirkzee clear

Zirkzee arrived at United last summer from Bologna but there are already noises that he could depart before the transfer window closes on September 1.

He endured a difficult start to life at United as he tried to adapt from Serie A. His lowest moment came in December, when his own fans booed him off after a shaky opening display against Newcastle.

However, he appeared to turn things around and enjoyed a strong finish to the campaign despite suffering an injury that ruled him out of the final few matches. He made his comeback in time for the Europa League final against Tottenham but was unable to inspire United to victory.

There has been some interest in Zirkzee this summer, with a recent report covered by The Peoples Person relaying that Napoli want him as a potential replacement for Romelu Lukaku, who suffered a serious injury that’s expected to sideline him for months.

However, United have no intention of letting the Dutchman leave.

Ruben Amorim values Zirkzee and views the forward as an important member of his squad. Zirkzee is likely to provide cover for new signing Benjamin Sesko.

Yet, despite United’s position, suitors continue to circle for Zirkzee, and PSV have now emerged as the newest contender.

PSV eyeing Zirkzee

According to Eindhovens Dagblad [via GBeNeFN], Zirkzee is the “dream candidate” for PSV to slot in for the injured Alassane Pléa.

PSV have a list of names but Zirkzee ranks highest. The report notes that “It almost couldn’t be otherwise.”

On whether PSV have made contact with United, apparently, “it’s clear that it will happen and that a transfer will likely be extremely complicated.”

Eindhovens Dagblad further state, “Even if Manchester United were to decide to temporarily loan Zirkzee to another club, PSV would likely struggle to make that happen financially.”

“In Eindhoven, it’s clear that PSV are taking their time to make the right choice.”

“The club is exploring several options and will hope that one of the top candidates surprisingly prove viable. In Zirkzee’s case, that would absolutely be the case, but PSV certainly has a lot to offer him in the run-up to next year’s World Cup.”

Meanwhile, United are back in action on Sunday when they go away to Craven Cottage to face Fulham. Kick-off is at 16:30 BST.
