Jose Mourinho wants to form a reunion with Christian Eriksen this winter.

According to Turkish outlet Star, Mourinho wants Fenerbahce to target Manchester United midfielder Eriksen this winter.

The Dane’s contract at Old Trafford is set to expire in the summer, and he recently revealed that he has yet to receive an offer from the club.

Eriksen is expected to remain at United until the end of the season unless an offer comes in January. Otherwise, he will be able to leave for free at the end of the current campaign.

The Denmark international will be able to open talks with foreign clubs in January at the very least.

United would be tempted to listen to offers to avoid losing the 32-year-old midfielder on a free, even if it only boosts finances marginally.

Eriksen worked with the enigmatic Portuguese coach during his time at Tottenham.

He recently played in the Europa League draw against Fenerbahce but spoke about his former manager ahead of the match.

The respect seems mutual between the pair.

Eriksen told TNT Sports at the time: “He has a few old teams. He has a long and very respected career, so hats off.

“But he’s still Mourinho… so it’s special to play against him. He is a massive, massive name in the football world and what he’s achieved as a manager is incredible.”

United’s draw against Fenerbahce undoubtedly contributed to Erik ten Hag’s dismissal earlier this month. After a poor start to the season, the Dutchman was sent on his way, but Eriksen’s game time was cut significantly when Ruud van Nistelrooy took charge as interim manager.

It remains to be seen if new head coach Ruben Amorim will have a place in his team for the veteran. The Portuguese coach was renowned for his high-energy Sporting CP side. United fans will hope the boss can bring that with him to Old Trafford.
