Arsenal have offered midfielder Jorginho a new contract that he is expected to sign, according to The Athletic.

The 32-year-old joined the Gunners from Chelsea in January 2023 for a £12 million fee and has become a key cog in Mikel Arteta’s midfield.

When he is not partnering Declan Rice or Thomas Partey in the centre of the park, he is a reliable option off the bench to close out games. He also brings experience and leadership qualities.

Jorginho’s initial 18-month deal included an option for an additional year, but Arsenal have decided to tie him down to a longer deal.

The Gunners have acted quickly, with teams in Italy looking to bring him back home on a free transfer this summer.

Juventus have begun rebuilding their squad for a new era this summer and were eyeing a summer swoop for the Italian international.

The former Chelsea man is a target for new Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli, who had signed him at Napoli.

Jorginho brings the midfield control that the Bianconeri are desperately missing, but they must turn their attention elsewhere.

His experience and composure have been invaluable for the North London club, with 35 appearances in all competitions this season, and they are keen on keeping him around.

This news comes amidst some uncertainty surrounding fellow defensive midfielder Partey.

The Ghanaian international recently returned from a hamstring injury and played a vital role in Arsenal’s wins over Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, but his contract situation remains unresolved. His deal expires in June 2025.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s recent trip to Saudi Arabia has been clarified as a meet-and-greet focused on building relationships with Saudi Pro League officials rather than exploring immediate transfer deals.

Jorginho’s signing is a positive step for Arsenal as they continue their push for a first Premier League title in two decades.
