New York Red Bulls defender John Tolkin has been selected for the US Olympic soccer team for the upcoming 2024 Paris Games, making him the first active player from the club to achieve this honor.

John Tolkin: Olympics represents New York Red Bulls achievement

This selection represents an achievement for both Tolkin and the Red Bulls, highlighting the club's role in developing players capable of competing on the international stage.

Tolkin, a Chatham, New Jersey native, is currently in his fifth season with the Red Bulls. Over his career, he has made 105 MLS appearances and recorded 15 assists across all competitions, tying him for second in franchise history for assists by a defender.

In 2024, Tolkin has one goal and two assists in 19 matches for the New York Red Bulls.

The United States return to the Olympics Games for the first time since 2008. As part of their preparations, they will face Spain in a friendly match on July 18 in Bordeaux, France. Following the friendly, Tolkin and the U.S. will compete in Group A, starting their campaign against hosts France on July 24. Three days later they will then play New Zealand on July 27, and conclude the group stage against Guinea on July 30.

Previous Red Bulls players have participated in the Olympics, but none were active members of the club at the time of their selection. Damian Silvera, AJ Wood and Miles Joseph were part of the 1996 Atlanta Olympics team, while Tim Howard and Ramiro Corrales competed in the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
