In an interview with Talksport, John Textor revealed that he is interested in completing a takeover of Sheffield Wednesday.
The American businessman is not deterred by the recent troubles he has experienced as owner of Crystal Palace, and wants to continue with investment in English football by acquiring the EFL Championship club. Textor has been forced to sell his shares in Crystal Palace due to UEFA rules on multi-club ownership.
Palace qualified for the UEFA Europa League after winning the FA Cup. However, after Lyon also qualified for the competition in Ligue 1, the East London club could find themselves exempt due to Textor not being able to prove that the clubs are owned by two separate entities. Woody Johnson has agreed to buy the former OL president’s shares in Crystal Palace, but this has yet to receive Premier League approval.
When asked about potentially buying the South Yorkshire club, the Eagle Football Group CEO said, “For me, Sheffield Wednesday represents the example of what’s wrong with English football. They should have the chance to fight for the title every year, but they don’t.”
