Premier League giants Arsenal look to get off on the right foot in the EFL Cup as they clash with Preston North End on Wednesday.
A cup clash in the aftermath of a credible 2-2 draw at home to Liverpool at the weekend presented Mikel Arteta the opportunity to shake up his match day XI, but one man has taken full advantage early doors; Gabriel Jesus.
The Brazilian forward, who has had a nightmare in front of goal for the Gunners in recent months, opened the scoring in the 24th minute after volleying home a header from starlet midfielder Ethan Nwaneri.
The goal goes down as Jesus’ first since January, amassing 25 games without finding the net prior to tonight.
With German international star Kai Havertz firmly entrenched as the main number 9 at the Emirates, Jesus will need to take his chances as they come to him if he is to fight for minutes under Arteta during another season of expectation in North London.
