It looks as though Chris Wilder is going to be tasked with getting the club back to the top flight next season, and he will likely want to make drastic changes to this squad.

There will be players Wilder will want to move on, and therefore, replacements will be needed, but Sheffield United may not have a considerable amount of funds to make changes.

So, it could be that Wilder and the Yorkshire side turn to the loan market to improve the squad. If that is the case, here we have looked at three perfect Premier League loan signings Sheffield United should already be eyeing…

1 Willy Kambwala

Manchester United defender Willy Kambwala should be on the Blades' radar this summer.

The central defender may not have been known to many Man United fans before this season, but he will be someone they are keeping an eye on, as he’s impressed in his handful of appearances this season.

The 19-year-old joined the club’s academy from French side FC Sochaux in 2020 and he has since been working his way up, making his first team debut this season.

Kambwala’s debut probably came sooner than expected, given Man United’s injury issues in defence but he has taken his opportunity and has impressed so is likely to be part of their plans for the long-term.

However, the Red Devils are likely to strengthen their defence in the summer, and therefore, they could look to loan Kambwala out next season.

If that is the case, Sheffield United should be all over a potential deal, as the Blades need to make changes to their backline this summer. The Blades conceded over 100 league goals and Chris Wilder will want to bolster at the back ahead of a promotion push.

Anel Ahmedhodzic has been linked with a move away this summer so a new centre-back may become a priority. Obviously, Kambwala doesn’t have experience in the Championship but he could be a good addition, as he would add energy, assurance, composure on the ball, and aerial ability.

A loan could help Wilder spend what money they do have in other areas, and it would help Man United see their defender play on a consistent basis.

2 Tim Iroegbunam

Tim Iroegbunam originally came through the academy at West Bromwich Albion, but in the summer of 2021, Midlands rivals Aston Villa snapped the midfielder up.

Since then, the 20-year-old has been playing in Villa’s under-23 team as well as occasionally in the first team.

However, it was the 2022/23 season when Iroegbunam really came to light, as he impressed during his season-long loan spell with QPR.

The midfielder played 32 times for the Rs, and while he grabbed two goals, it was his all-round play that made him stand out.

Iroegbunam contributed both in terms of attacking play and defensive play, so much so that he impressed Unai Emery, and he decided to keep the midfielder at the club for the 2023/24 season.

The young midfielder has been limited to a handful of appearances in the Premier League and the Europa Conference League.

Villa will want to improve their squad again this summer and they could, therefore, be willing to let Iroegbunam leave on loan.

This could be perfect for Sheffield United, as it has been reported that midfielder Ollie Norwood will be leaving the club this summer. Wilder will be keen to replace him, and they could do that with a younger, more energetic player.

3 Jesurun Rak-Sakyi

Another player who could be a perfect loan capture for Sheffield United is Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi.

The 21-year-old shot to fame while on loan at Charlton Athletic in the 2022/23 season. Rak-Sakyi scored 15 goals and chipped in with eight assists in 43 League One games.

The player was highly sought after last summer but an injury picked up earlier this season put an end to any potential move. It has been a struggle for Rak-Sakyi, as he’s been limited to just a handful of appearances due to injuries and the performances of other Crystal Palace players.

It has already been claimed that Portsmouth are looking into a deal for the winger this summer and there is no reason why Sheffield United shouldn’t be part of the race.

If Palace loan the winger out then the Championship is a likely destination. The Blades should keep tabs as he could add a different dimension to their attack and give them that creative edge they have missed this season.

The Blades are set to lose Ben Brereton Diaz at the end of this season and Rak-Sakyi could be a very good replacement – offering goals and dynamism from the flanks.
