Jamal Musiala faces a lengthy spell out of action after picking up a serious injury during Bayern Munich’s Club World Cup quarter-final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday.
The 22-year-old suffered a broken leg and a dislocated ankle following a first-half collision with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. His leg became trapped in an awkward position as he challenged for the ball, and he was clearly in severe pain, clutching his left ankle and screaming before being stretchered off with his face buried in his shirt.
Musiala was taken to hospital for an initial assessment before being flown back to Munich, where he underwent surgery.
Bayern later confirmed on Monday that the operation had been a success.
"Jamal Musiala successfully underwent surgery following his return from the FIFA Club World Cup in the USA. In the quarter-finals between FC Bayern and Paris St. Germain, the 22-year-old forward suffered a fibula fracture as a result of the injury and dislocation of the ankle and was substituted at halftime. He will begin his first rehabilitation sessions tomorrow, Tuesday, and will not be available for the German champions for the coming months", read the statement issued by the German club.
