Bayern Munich's hierarchy is in a tricky situation with the contract extensions of Leroy Sane, Joshua Kimmich, and Alphonso Davies. All three players have entered the last six months of their current deals. Bayern is hoping to reach an agreement with Davies and Kimmich, while Sane’s situation will be addressed later in the season.
The Bavarian club doesn't want to repeat the same mistake with Jamal Musiala. Bayern wants to build the squad around the youngster and make him the face of the club in the long run. Musiala currently has 18 months left on his contract. Die Roten have been in negotiations with the 21-year-old to sign a new bumper deal.
The reports in Germany had suggested that a breakthrough in talks may arrive during the winter break. However, the latest update from Germany is worrying for the Bavarian faithful.
According to Bild, Musiala wants to insert a release clause in his contract renewal. The German forward’s representatives want the release clause to be worth €175 million. However, Die Roten have no intention to sanction a release clause in the new deal.
The Bavarian club wants to extend Musiala’s contract until 2030. Both parties are much closer in negotiations for the wages. However, the request to insert a release clause will certainly drag the negotiations between both parties during the second half of the season.
The Bavarian club has never engaged in contract extensions where players got the desire to insert a release clause. They are likely to fight until the end to make sure that there is no such exception made for Musiala.
Bayern will find themselves in a difficult situation if they do not find an agreement with Musiala by the end of the season. The 21-year-old will enter the final year of his deal, and there has been significant interest from various top clubs across Europe. Bayern cannot afford to lose Musiala to one of their European rivals.
The next few months will be very crucial for Bayern in terms of their long-term squad-building process. They cannot afford to lose too many top-quality senior players in the summer. Max Eberl and Christoph Freund will be under pressure to get negotiations over the line for Musiala, Kimmich, and Davies. Along with transfers, they will be judged on how they conduct the contract negotiations with these three key players.
