‘It’s not working but for some reason…’: Fernandes makes damning post-match admission on Amorim’s philosophy

It seems as though it’s not just the Manchester United fans who’ve been left perplexed by Ruben Amorim’s style of play.

Since taking the reins from predecessor Erik ten Hag last November, the head coach has sustained nine losses in all competitions: eight in the Premier League and a quarter-final Carabao Cup exit.

In turn, many have questioned his newly implemented formation and tactical shift, which has yet to prove beneficial to the side’s results or performances.

Amorim is, however, sticking to his guns – and you exactly can’t blame him for that. He was chosen by club chiefs to come in and play HIS way, knowing full well it could take a lengthy period before his vision starts taking shape and reflecting in United’s form.

The Reds very nearly dropped points again tonight when up against relegation candidates Ipswich Town. The five-goal thriller ultimately swayed in United’s favour, but not without their fair share of hiccups along the way.

When reacting to the drama-filled affair post-match, Bruno Fernandes told TNT Sports: “Me and H (Harry Maguire) have been here for a while already, so we know that we have to stick to what we’ve been trying to do in training [and] what we’re supposed to do.

“It could be that you could feel in moments that it’s not working, but for some reason, the manager wants us to do that – and if he wants us to do that… they (the coaches) watch so many games, they prepare themselves (for our matches).

“We have so many staff – not only the ones who came with him but the ones who were already here. We have great people behind the team to work on that, so if they do that in the right way, we just have to come on the pitch and show it. As I said, we need to have more confidence [and] be more brave to show our character and our qualities.”
