Chelsea director Daniel Finkelstein has said it’s great to see Moises Caicedo proving the doubters wrong and hearing supporters chant Marc Cucurella’s name.

The Blues are preparing to face Bournemouth on Sunday in the final game of the season, knowing a point will see them secure sixth place, and they could even finish as high as fifth if Tottenham lose to Sheffield United.

It’s been quite the turnaround for Chelsea given they were languishing in 11th at the beginning of April but a strong run of form has elevated them to sixth, and victory against the Cherries would see the club record five league wins in a row for the first time under the new ownership.

Finkelstein praises Caicedo and Cucurella

Caicedo has been under constant scrutiny following his British record £115m move from Brighton last summer, and the midfielder has wrongly come under criticism for his performances this season.

After a slow start, having missed the entire pre season due to his transfer saga Caicedo is now finding some rhythm, and since the turn of the year has been brilliant for the Blues, showing everyone why the club paid the money they did for him.

Cucurella’s case is some transformation given he was booed by supporters during his first season at the club following his £62m move from Brighton, and he has struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge.

Cucurella and Caicedo have played a key role in Chelsea’s resurgence.

However, the Spaniard has played much better this season, despite having surgery on an ankle injury that ruled him out for a couple of months, and has really excelled and become a key player since being inverted into midfield when the team are in possession at half time against Aston Villa.

He’s a popular and well liked member of the dressing room and it’s great to see him playing well and getting the recognition he deserves.

Chelsea director Finkelstein has praised the pair in his column in the final match day programme of the season.

“Moises Caicedo is proving the doubters wrong every week”, he wrote.

“And how great (and deserved) it is to hear supporters chant the name of Marc Cucurella!

“He’s long been my son Isaac’s favourite player and now he’s becoming a wider fan favourite.”

The pair have been crucial in Chelsea’s resurgence which has seen the Blues only lose once in 14 Premier League games since the 4-2 to defeat against Wolves in February.
