“It’s difficult”- Ex-Blue reveals whether Cole Palmer or Rodri should win Player of the Year | OneFootball

Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton has admitted it’s difficult to pick who should win Player of the Year between Cole Palmer and Rodri.

It’s safe to say at the start of the season no one would have had Palmer in the running given the 21-year-old had only made 19 Premier League appearances before joining Chelsea for Manchester City.

Palmer has produced phenomenal numbers for the Blues this season and it would now be a surprise if he didn’t pick up at least one award at the end of the season.

The forward has made 38 appearances in all competitions for the Blues, scoring 23 goals and providing 13 assists.

Following his four goals against Everton on Monday, Palmer is now level with with former team-mate Erling Haaland at the top of the scoring charts with 20 goals.

There are other players such as Declan Rice and Rodri who are also having brilliant seasons with both players playing a key role in their sides challenging for the title.

Ex-Blue Sutton was asked who he felt should win the Player of the Year award, and he told The Monday Night Club: “Rodri. I think it’s difficult.”

“I mean, Cole Palmer sort of comes into it just because I’ve seen him score a hat-trick this evening, but Declan Rice I think just for his influence on this Arsenal team as much as anything else. I think he’s made a huge impact.”

It’s hard to argue against Palmer given he’s joint top of the scoring charts and has scored two hat-tricks this season.

Palmer has scored against City, Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester United this season showing he can deliver in the big games.

He has also shown he can create goals, and has registered nine assists so far this season.

The England international definitely deserves to end the season with an award and appears to be the favourite for the Young Player of the Year, but if he continues this form there’s no reason why he shouldn’t win the main prize.
