Mike Tresor’s position within the Burnley squad will be under scrutiny this summer following the club’s promotion to the Premier League.

The winger struggled for game time in Scott Parker’s side last season, with injury issues hampering his availability.

The 25-year-old had featured 16 times in the previous campaign, including three starts, as the team suffered relegation from the top flight with a 19th place finish in the table.

However, he failed to contribute a single goal or assist in a difficult first campaign at Turf Moor, before making zero appearances in the Championship.

When asked about Tresor, FLW’s Burnley fan pundit Will Lancaster claimed that a summer departure might be the best move for all parties.

He highlighted the competition the winger faces for game time, suggesting he will again struggle for minutes if he stays with the Clarets for their Premier League return.

“It’s a weird one on Tresor because Scott Parker has obviously never really ruled him completely out or frozen him out of the picture,” Lancaster told Football League World.

“It just always seems to be injuries that have dogged him throughout the campaign.

“And, he did show, albeit minor, the glimpses of being a Premier League player in his first season at the club.

“But I just think he’ll find it really hard now to get into the squad, .

"We’ve got Marcus Edwards, who is slowly becoming a fan favourite, Jaidon Anthony, who is a fan favourite.

“They’ve both signed on permanent deals as a result of promotion, and then you’ve got the likes of Luca Koleosho, Aaron Ramsey, Manuel Benson, who have all shown in their own right that they’re well liked and that Parker is willing to try them out.

“So maybe I think the best course of action could be selling Tresor to fund moves for other players in other positions to really strengthen our survival bid.

“While I wouldn’t like to see him go as such, or see what he could still offer, I do think it’s best for him to part ways with the club in the coming months.”

Burnley signed Tresor in the 2023 summer transfer window, bringing him to English football from Belgian giants Genk.

Tresor sale would be the best move for all parties

Tresor’s injury issues have really hampered any chance he had of proving a valuable member of Parker’s first team plans.

Given the options now in the squad, it might be best for all parties if a sale is made in the summer.

It’s unlikely Burnley will be able to generate a massive market for him, so may have to accept a cut-price deal, but giving him the chance to perform elsewhere while raising some funds would help out everyone involved.

It’s disappointing for the player and the club that it’s not worked out, but it’s hard to see him becoming a key part of the team if he does stay.
