Celtic are level on points with Hearts at the top of the table and are already four points clear of the latest Ibrox club.

Now, Nygren has outlined he and his teammates are not focused on their early advantage of their rivals and are intent on improving week on week, believing this Hoops team is only beginning to hit their stride.

Scoring his first goal for Celtic over the weekend, speaking to Celtic TV the 23 year-old midfielder said: “No, it [the four point gap between Celtic and theRangers]doesn’t matter right now. It’s too early. Our focus is on us and that’s it. We’ve only played the first two games. I think it’s natural that the more games the team plays together, the better it will be. It’s very early in the season, but we’ve had a good start.”

Nygren added: “It was a very good game and a solid performance from everyone. I think especially the players at the back had an amazing game. Aberdeen couldn’t get through us and I thought, in general, that it was a very good performance. We had good control, a perfect win and a clean sheet.”

Celtic will learn their Champions League playoff opponents this evening, as Kazakhstan’s league title-holders Kairat Almaty take a 1-0 first-leg advantage to Slovakia to face Slovan Bratislava.

Nygren insists it does not matter who Celtic face, as the Scottish champions will be giving everything to earn their place among Europe’s elite for a fourth consecutive season.

He said: “It’s a huge dream for me. I think all players want to play in the biggest competitions.”

“There is no bigger competition in club football than the Champions League. It’s a big dream and me and the team will do everything to get it. Who would we rather face? I don’t know to be honest.”
