Midfielder Davide Frattesi is set to start for Inter Milan in their Serie A match away to Roma this weekend.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. They report that the 25-year-old is likelier to get the nod than fellow Italian international Nicolo Barella.

Frattesi has started in each of Inter’s last two matches in Serie A.

The former Sassuolo midfielder started against both of Udinese and Torino before the international break.

The reason for Frattesi starting was that Nicolo Barella was unavailable. The 27-year-old picked up a thigh injury in the derby against AC Milan last month, and missed a few matches.

Frattesi responded to his opportunity in the starting eleven with a couple of impressive performances.

Particularly against Udinese, Frattesi was decisive. He scored Inter’s early opening goal, and helped the Nerazzurri to take control of the midfield battle.

Now, Barella is back from his injury.

The former Cagliari midfielder spent the international break recovering and working his way back to fitness. He is currently back in full training.

Therefore, Barella will certainly be available for selection on Sunday against Roma.

On the other hand, however, Inter will be without Piotr Zielinski. The Pole will miss at least one match after picking up a muscle problem while on international duty.

According to Tuttosport, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has yet to fully make up his mind as to whether Barella or Frattesi should start on Sunday.

But the newspaper anticipate that the coach is leaning towards Frattesi.

Barella may be available. But he has only just returned.

Therefore, Inzaghi is ready to stick with Frattesi and give Barella the opportunity to ease back into the team.

The schedule is going to require plenty of squad rotation for Inter.
