Yesterday evening, Inter beat Frosinone by a truly emphatic 5-0 scoreline.

The Nerazzurri got big contributions from a number of players who do not regularly start matches this season.

First, midfielder Davide Frattesi opened the scoring. Then, striker Marko Arnautovic and wingback Tajon Buchanan scored the second and third respectively.

It was a match that showed that Inter’s “second string” can more than make their contribution.

If last weekend’s loss to Sassuolo raised doubts about the “backup” players then Inter answered them yesterday.

However, that did not mean that some of the usual suspects weren’t also at the heart of the performance.

Nicolo Barella & Federico Dimarco Praised For Displays Vs Frosinone

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi did decide to play a few of the most important starters from the first minute.

Foremost among these were midfielder Barella and wingback Dimarco.

Both of the two Italian internationals have been among Inter’s key players this season.

And the pair showed why with their performances against Frosinone yesterday.

In midfield, Barella used his technical ability, passing range, and familiarity with the 3-5-2 shape to good effect.

The 27-year-old may not have had the most barnstorming display in the final third. But closer to his own goal, Barella kept possession ticking over swiftly.

The former Cagliari midfielder was often the player who played in front of the defense as holding midfielder Kristjan Asllani would drop in alongside the back three.

Then, on the left flank, wingback Dimarco played like his usual self.

The 26-year-old has become one of Inter’s main sources of creativity this season. And he showed why against Frosinone.

Dimarco was constantly looking for pockets of space to receive the ball, and swiftly move it from one end of the pitch to the other.

The presence of Barella and Dimarco on the pitch helped Inter retain their identity even with a number of regular starters on the bench.
