Ruben Amorim officially got to work at Carrington this week to kickstart the beginning of his Manchester United tenure.

The Old Trafford faithful were thrilled to see snaps of their new head coach finally in Manchester and getting to grips with his surroundings, and the players who’ve remained at the training complex over the international break.

It’s only 11 days until he’ll take to the dugout for the first time when the Reds travel to face Premier League newbies Ipswich Town on November 24, with his first home game penned in for the 28th in a Europa League group-stage clash vs Bodø/Glimt.

As such, fans are already mulling over how the squad will shape up when Amorim implements his 3-4-3 formation for the first time.

Journo struggles to see how Marcus Rashford slots into Amorim’s plans

You’d expect that, in time, the back-three would consist of Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro and Lisandro Martinez, the latter of which is a doubt for the Ipswich clash after withdrawing from Argentina duty with a ‘knock’.

Bruno Fernandes is almost certain to retain his place behind Rasmus Hojlund, as well as one of United’s most promising performers this season, Noussair Mazraoui, at right-wing back.

Speaking on talkSPORT this week, Alex Crook voiced his doubts over Marcus Rashford’s starting spot – given that his preferred position is on the left flank rather than centrally.

“I’m not convinced where he fits in under Ruben Amorim,” Crooks said of Rashford. “Because we know he wants to play this 3-4-3 formation, that’s more of a sort of two-in behind a central striker, rather than with out-and-out wingers, as Rashford clearly prefers to play.

“So it wouldn’t surprise me if, in the fullness of time, when Ruben Amorim gets his feet under the desk, he realises that Rashford doesn’t really have the tools to do the job that he wants to, and then Manchester United have got a very highly paid player who doesn’t really fit.”

Rashford has once again been overlooked for an England call-up this month, and should his minutes at club level reduce in the coming months, he’ll face a battle to return to the national team setup when Thomas Tuchel takes the reins.
