Manchester City forward Phil Foden has marked his club’s record-breaking Premier League title win by stating this one “means more” to the squad.

The England international forward has been instrumental in Manchester City’s success this season, with his performances in a number of positions recognised through the claiming of two of the leading individual awards in recent weeks.

Foden’s outstanding showings for Manchester City saw him voted by the Football Writers’ Association as their Footballer of the Year, before the Premier League recognised the ‘Stockport Iniesta’ as their Player of the Season.

The final day of the English top-flight campaign saw a continuation of Foden’s exemplary performances, with the 23-year-old slamming home a brace as part of a 3-1 win over West Ham to claim a fourth success crown.

Speaking in the aftermath of Manchester City’s 3-1 win over West Ham, which secured the club a fourth successive Premier League title, Phil Foden admitted that their latest English top-flight success “means more” to all involved.

“It’s so hard to put into words today, we’ve put ourselves into the history books, no team has ever done it and you can see what it means to the fans, what it means to us,” Phil Foden explained to broadcasters.

“We’ve worked so hard for this moment right here, and it’s such a special feeling to share this with the fans. In the Premier League it means more because no team has ever won four in a row before, we’re the first team to do it, I’m lost for words to be honest and I’m absolutely shattered.”

Foden continued, “Not just me, but all the lads as well have played important games over the years and we’ve played this scenario a couple of times as well. That experience helps the nerves and I thought today we looked confident and we just played our football and in the end it paid off.”

The work for Foden and his Manchester City teammates is likely to continue at the same intensity when they return from a few days off this week, as they gear up for an end-of-season showdown with Manchester United in the FA Cup Final.

The clash with Erik ten Hag’s side will be a repeat of last season’s cup final, which saw Manchester City come out on top as part of a Treble triumph culminating in a UEFA Champions League final win over Inter in Istanbul, Turkey.
