Respected reporter Florian Plettenberg has reported via X that Bayer Leverkusen are preparing for manager Xabi Alonso to depart the club next summer. Furthermore, Plettenberg reports that Alonso is a candidate to replace Carlo Ancelotti as Real Madrid manager. Plettenberg further reports that Alonso is a candidate to replace Pep Guardiola as Manchester City manager. Lastly, Plettenberg adds that City have shown concrete interest in naming Xabi Alonso as manager if Pep Guardiola does leave the club.

That streak in Alonso’s Leverkusen side factored in with the attractive football that they play makes Alonso almost the ideal candidate to one day replace Pep Guardiola.

But of course everything is dependent on what Pep Guardiola decides to do with his future. If he calls time on his City tenure then it appears that the path may be clear for City to move for Alonso.
