Should Alexander Isak Be a Summer Replacement for Diogo Jota?

As the questions continue to arise regarding the injury issues of Diogo Jota and the sporadic form of his Uruguayan teammate, Darwin Núñez, it could lead to the Reds Sporting Director, Richard Hughes, targeting a new hitman in the next summer window. The prominent names of both Viktor Gyökeres and João Pedro, appear to make the most sense, however, there could be an outside chance of obtaining a man who was once linked to a move to Anfield before his most recent transfer.

With Newcastle continuing to find a way to balance their monetary books, one of their most prized assets, Alexander Isak, could be the €100m forward sold to ease their financial burden. Liverpool’s Premier League rivals, Arsenal, have been routinely linked with a move for the outstanding Sweden striker. However, their overspending in recent seasons may open the door for the Reds Sporting CEO, Michael Edwards, to enter the fray and sanction a record-breaking transfer to Merseyside.

With an intelligence and versatile nature to his elite attacking style, the former Borussia Dortmund player has risen to become one of the most dangerous strikers in the English top tier. Within a team that is failing to meet the early promise (since their most recent takeover), the structure of the club has altered somewhat, as their newly appointed Sporting Director, Paul Mitchell, has been brought in to offer a more strategic approach to their squad building.

The desire of the Geordies to spend huge amounts of money has been heavily tempered by the profit and sustainability measures that are now being enforced, therefore, one of Eddie Howe’s stars may have to be sacrificed to enable further spending in the summer of 2025.

Is This a Viable Link?

Despite the expected fee being an eye-watering amount, the newly established hierarchy of the Anfield giants is already showing significant improvement in their outgoing sales. After a few too many seasons of seeing key assets wind down their contracts and leave for free, the concept of attaining huge fees has come roaring back to the LFC fore, essentially under the stewardship of the former Sporting Director, Edwards.

Given this superb start to life under the new head coach, Arne Slot, the consensus will surely revolve around improvement to key areas in the coming windows. With the potential sale of either Diogo Jota or Darwin Núñez, much of any fee for the Newcastle man would be supplemented immediately by such transactions. In terms of the validity of such an incoming move, there is always the possibility of adding a make weight to any proposal to appease the bookkeeping and enticement of a deal.

Joe Gomez is very highly thought of by the Premier League’s 8th-placed club and may well be used as a bargaining tool, therefore, if Alexander Isak is a player that fits the desired model of the new regime, then it is a move that should be explored in the next few months.

The level of expectation will only continue to rise with good form and success, which needs this regeneration to become an ongoing enterprise that does not allow for sentiment or relaxation in its process. If Liverpool is to become the world’s greatest footballing team once more, top-level recruitment is crucial and the man that is now excelling for Newcastle Unit could just be the next best-attacking addition.
