Invasion of Glasgow begins – 10,000+ Newcastle United fans on the move to Celtic Park | OneFootball

The invasion of Glasgow is underway, with 10,000+ Newcastle United fans making their way to Celtic Park.

An initial 7,200 away ticket allocation was swiftly snapped up, with then Celtic offering more tickets, leading to an official away following of 10,000+.

However, judging by the number of people I have heard who have tickets amongst the Celtic fans in their sections, I would guess there will be at least 12,000 to 13,000 Newcastle United fans at the match today.

Reports from north of the border seem to point to total crowd of around 40,000, so fair to say you might hear the Newcastle United fans today…

Newcastle Central Station is chocka this morning.

Our correspondent sending this image (see below) on a train heading over to Carlisle and then a connection up to Glasgow. Before his train set off, there were probably as many Newcastle United fans standing in the aisles as there were sitting, until an announcement that an extra train had been put on to swiftly follow this one, which at least led to a fair few who were standing getting off in the hope of a seat on that one.

Celtic’s message to their own fans going to today’s match:

‘Due to an increased away support for this fixture, the external gates behind the Lisbon Lions Stand and the South East Corner at Kinloch Street will be closed.

There will be no thoroughfare for Celtic supporters behind the Lisbon Lions Stand, as this will be for Newcastle United supporters only.

Celtic supporters should approach the stadium via the Celtic Way from London Road, Janefield Street East and Janefield West.’

Information for Newcastle United fans going today:

‘All Newcastle United fans (in the official away sections) must enter the away sections via London Road.

On entry from London Road you will then be directed to the correct location based on your turnstile number

Turnstiles 48–61 via Lisbon Lions Car Park on Dalriada St

Turnstiles 62–65 via the right hand side of Kinloch St

Turnstiles 66–67 via the left hand side of Kinloch St
