Internacional will face São Paulo in the next round of the Brasileirão having formalized the signing of Alan Rodríguez from Argentinos Juniors, according to Arquibancada Tricolor. Rodríguez, a 25-year-old Uruguayan midfielder, completed his move this week and has inked a contract valid until December 2029.
Rodríguez arrives with an established pedigree from his stint at Argentinos Juniors, where he wore the captain’s armband and featured in 93 matches, contributing eight goals and five assists. His final appearance for the Buenos Aires side came on May 28. The acquisition of the midfielder comes during a pivotal stretch in the league, with Internacional seeking to bolster depth and add leadership in the centre of the pitch.
His arrival brings the number of foreign players in Internacional’s squad to ten, surpassing the regulatory limit that allows a maximum of nine non-Brazilian-born footballers to be named in each matchday squad for domestic competitions. This gives manager Eduardo Coudet an extra decision to make when selecting his squad, particularly ahead of the match against São Paulo, scheduled for Sunday, August 3 at Beira Rio, in what will be the 18th round of the national campaign.
For São Paulo, the timing of Rodríguez’s signing adds intrigue, with both teams closely positioned in the league table and searching for positive momentum into the season’s second half. The presence of a new midfield option could signal tactical adjustments for Internacional, while also creating a selection challenge as Coudet weighs which international players to include for this encounter.
