Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez has joined an illustrious list of top scorers for the Argentina national team, as breaks into the top 10 highest in the country’s history.
As reported by FCInter1908.it, Martinez’s early goal in a 2-1 defeat to Paraguay in Asuncion in 2026 World Cup Qualifying yesterday saw him go level with Angel Di Maria and Gonzalo Higuain in the Albiceleste’s records.
Martinez’s strike was his 31st in an Argentina shirt, but the former Racing Club striker has achieved that feat in fewer games than his compatriots, with Di Maria representing the World Cup winners 145 times, and ex-Juventus man Higuain playing 75 games.
The Inter striker now has Argentina icon Diego Armando Maradona in his sights and is just three goals shy of the former Napoli legend.
Another Inter representative is also within touching distance as Martinez seeks to close in on the 35 goals scored by Hernan Crespo, whilst Sergio Aguero retired on 41 goals.
Serie A legend Gabriel Batistuta, who also had a brief spell with Inter, is in second place on 56 goals, whilst current captain Lionel Messi is considerably clear after scoring an incredible 112 times.
