Hull City's upcoming pre-season will no doubt see eyes cast upon the club after recent changes.

The arrival of German head coach, Tim Walter, was long-standing and well-documented prior to the confirmation of his appointment on May 31st, particularly after the sacking of Liam Rosenior three weeks previous.

Walter may have never managed in England before, but his CV, despite a small blemish at VfB Stuttgart, has been well-respected by many, even after his dismissal from sleeping giants Hamburg SV in February, as he holds a win percentage of 50.25 percent, having also enjoyed a fine campaign in charge of Holstein Kiel.

Hakan Çalhanoğlu admission highlights positives in Tim Walter's managerial career

One of those with the utmost respect for the 48-year-old is current Inter Milan and Türkiye playmaker, Hakan Çalhanoğlu, who also featured for Hamburg in the 2013/14 campaign.

Although never managed by Walter throughout his career, the 31-year-old midfielder's comments, relayed by Tigers owner, Acun Ilicali, will have no doubt hinted at a potential transfer policy which could be adopted over the summer in HU3, as well as admitting the Inter star's influence on the final appointment.

"The first one (we contacted in the process) is Hakan Çalhanoğlu, he's a very good friend of mine, and he said in the beginning of his career, Tim was one of the biggest reasons for his development in football," Ilicali told Hull Live.

"He said to me, he's (Tim) so good in making the young players improve," he added. "Please check him, he's different. He's very, very different, but he's a very good coach, and then you check and you decide. I talked to my football brain team again and then our team started checking about him and it started the journey."

Whilst Rosenior also earned great praise for the development of specific youngsters, such as loanees Tyler Morton and Liam Delap, these comments from Çalhanoğlu could no doubt influence the decision-making of two City stars in particular who are part of the squad Walter will inherit on July 1st.

Jacob Greaves could continue to shine under Tim Walter

Those comments will no doubt be music to the ears of supporters, as well as the homegrown talent of Jacob Greaves.

Greaves in particular, has been hailed as one of the best centre-backs in the division, echoed by his inclusion in the EFL's official Championship Team of the Season in a side notorious with building attacks from the heart of the defence, a style also somewhat adopted by his new boss.

Unsurprisingly, the 23-year-old has been the subject of interest from Premier League clubs, including West Ham United and Everton - with the Toffees also potentially losing left-footed centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite in the summer after a remarkable campaign.

Greaves has been likened to Branthwaite given his ability, but unsurprisingly, it will cost any potential suitors a premium price to prize him out of East Yorkshire.

Although many will state that the defender is ready for a top flight move - one which also can hardly be begrudged, especially following Ilicali's recent remarks, there will be a glimmer of hope that his compatriot's words, which centre around Greaves' new boss, will turn his head the other way and he can play a part in the Tigers' promotion bid.

However, there is a conundrum that the £15m fee which has been spoken about would massively aid Walter's recruitment plans in other areas, as Ilicali revealed he can only cough up £14m of his own finances.

Jaden Philogene can flourish in Tim Walter's plans

Another man among City's ranks who has gained interest from Premier League clubs is winger, Jaden Philogene.

The former Aston Villa man made a great impression during his first season in Black and Amber, and that came after missing two months of the season with a knee injury, catching the attention of Spurs, Crystal Palace and Ajax.

Therefore, it is a mouth-watering prospect to imagine the ceiling of the 22-year-old's performances under Walter, who was known for a high-octane style of play at the Volksparkstadion, which provided an abundance of goals.

During his two full seasons in charge of 'Die Rothosen', the club tallied 138 goals across 68 Bundesliga.2 outings, a facet he will no doubt look to bring to the MKM Stadium given the creativity within the ranks, such as Ozan Tufan and Abdus Omur alongside the aforementioned Philogene.

Despite netting 12 times from out wide, the ex Cardiff and Stoke loanee can improve when it comes to providing for others, only accumulating six assists in 32 Championship outings - for reference, Hamburg winger Jean-Luc Dompe reached his final tally of seven assists prior to Walter's dismissal on February 12th, although he did pick up a slight knock in the weeks which followed.

Either way, it is an exciting proposition for supporters who were left frustrated at the end result, given the abundance of potential and quality within the ranks, and it's now Walter's job to persuade the likes of the aforementioned duo to ignore outside interest and aid the club's well-documented aims of a return to the Premier League.
