Stefan de Vrij admits Inter Milan have “room to improve” after their narrow 1-0 Serie A win over Venezia this evening.
The Dutchman reacted to the nervy victory in an interview with DAZN after the match, via FCInterNews.
In the end, Inter got the three points they were after against Venezia this evening.
But it certainly wasn’t a straightforward victory for the Nerazzurri.
There was late drama as Venezia wingback Marin Sverko thought that he’d equalized late in stoppage time.
However, the goal was disallowed that the 26-year-old had handled the ball as he turned it into the net.
Meanwhile, Inter had a goal disallowed for a narrow offside by wingback Federico Dimarco.
And there were a few instances in which Inter had what looked to be good chances, but shot high and wide.
They also faced Filip Stankovic, a Nerazzurri youth team goalkeeper on loan at Venezia, who produced a string of outstanding saves against his parent club.
Inter did break through midway through the second half.
It was captain Lautaro Martinez who headed home from an inch-perfect Federico Dimarco cross for the goal that was worth all three points for his team.
However, that was only after a very nervy finale where the Nerazzurri thought they’d thrown it away late on.
“We allowed it to get right down to the wire,” admitted Inter defender de Vrij.
“And at that point anything can happen.”
“We were lucky that there was a handball and the goal was disallowed,” the Dutchman continued.
He added that “We had opportunities to kill it off earlier.”
“We didn’t do so. And then they had chances as well.”
“It’s a good result,” de Vrij said of the win. “But there’s still room for improvement.”
