Inter Milan sporting director Piero Ausilio reveals the profile that the club is seeking as they look to replace the injured Tajon Buchanan.

The Canadian will be out for almost five months after fracturing his tibia while on international duty.

But instead of buying another wingback, the Nerazzurri apparently have a different plan.

Simone Inzaghi will once again deploy Carlos Augusto as a backup for Federico Dimarco on the left flank. The Brazilian had been recently serving as Alessandro Bastoni’s understudy in the left centre-back role.

So with Augusto back to his natural habitat, Ausilio confirms Inter will be looking to add a new left-footed defender to the fold.

“We pulled off the market we wanted to do, and definitely did something that interested us in advance like signing Taremi and Zielinski,” noted the Nerazzurri director while chatting with reporters during an event in Forte dei Marmi via FcInterNews.

“We took the opportunity in the goalkeeping department as well (signing Josep Martinez from Genoa).

“I see the team fine as it is, but then unfortunately Buchanan’s injury ensued. So we must know how to react and think about a solution.

“It’s not very serious, in four months he should recover. But in the meantime, we’ll see if we can complete the squad with an intelligent coup.

“There’s only one way to do this. We have already spoken to the coach. We know the names, but it will be a player who will occupy the center-left in defense.

“This is also because we have Carlos Augusto who can play as a wingback. We are leaning towards a left-footed defender.

“we will see the opportunities on the market but we are very calm. Obviously, we will not communicate news from one day to the next as you expect.

“We have two months to find the right solution.”

The reporters asked Ausilio about new links with Torino defender Alessandro Buongiorno who is close to joining Napoli.

Nevertheless, the Inter sporting director played down the news.

“Only one person has spoken about it,” said Ausilio in reference to the player’s agent Beppe Riso.

Moreover, the 52-year-old quashed rumors linking Stefan de Vrij with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad.

“When these rumors emerge, sometimes they have a foundation. But in this case, it doesn’t.

“I can only say that de Vrij is an important player for us and is having an excellent European Championship.

“He is part of this season’s project. For us, he is an important element who alternates in the role with Acerbi.

“Then if he wants to consider proposals, we are here to listen. But today, he is an Inter player and so he’s in our plans.”

Ausilio also commented on the expected contract extensions of Inzaghi and Lautaro Martinez.

“We have said it several times. These are things that we must formalize.

“In Lautaro’s case, there is also the Copa America that will take him away from us for a few more weeks. But I would say that everything is fine.

“As for the coach, we are working on it. But as we have said several times, it is something that we must sort out.”

Finally, the Inter official wasn’t interested in discussing Romelu Lukaku’s potential move to AC Milan.

“This wouldn’t have any effect on us. I’m not interested in Milan but only in Inter’s transfer market. We’re not looking at other people’s houses.”
