The defensive “sheriff” Francesco Acerbi is back for Inter Milan ahead of crunch Serie A clashes with Juventus and Napoli.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

Defender Acerbi was on the sidelines for a total of 79 days.

The Italian international didn’t even get a cameo appearance from the bench between his start against Hellas Verona in November and his appearance in the starting eleven against Fiorentina on Monday.

But despite this, Acerbi announced his return to the lineup authoritatively.

The 37-year-old put in an impeccable display marking Fiorentina striker Moise Kean.

Kean has been one of the most in-form strikers in Serie A this season. And just last week, he scored twice against Inter.

But Kean barely had a sniff against the returning Acerbi.

Inter did not miss Francesco Acerbi much while he was away. This was due to a string of excellent performances by Stefan de Vrij.

But all the same, having Acerbi back is certainly a big deal for the Nerazzurri.

Particularly ahead of this Sunday’s Derby d’Italia clash with Juventus.

Having just shown his quality up against Kean, Acerbi will be aiming to do the same to January Bianconeri signing Randal Kolo Muani.

Then, there will be next month’s top-of-the-table Serie A clash with Napoli.

Acerbi has already proven that he can mark former teammate Romelu Lukaku out of a match, in both a Roma and Napoli shirt.

And Inter will be counting on their defensive “sheriff” to do the same thing yet again.
