Inter Milan President Beppe Marotta is reluctant to let last night’s defeat to Fluminense taint the club’s worldwide image.
Speaking to Sport Mediaset via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri chief reiterated his confidence in this team.
These are difficult times for the San Siro club.
Indeed, Inter have gone from a busted treble dream to FIFA Club World Cup elimination in less than a month.
Therefore, it’s up to new boss Cristian Chivu to reignite the squad’s winning mentality and get Inter back on track.
Last night’s loss was hard to digest.
Despite carrying a favorite tag into their last-16 tie against Fluminense, the Italians came up second-best in Charlotte.
Though a 2-0 defeat wasn’t what Chivu had in mind heading into the game, this is not the time for regrets.
Instead, the Nerazzurri must work on rediscovering their mojo and preparing for next season as best as possible.

“The final assessment is that it’s been a very intense and eventful season,” Beppe Marotta said after the match. “Playing our 63rd match is extraordinary in the world of football.
“We played 21 more matches than our rivals. We’re closing the book on a campaign in which we were protagonists both in Italy and abroad.
“Finishing second does not mean failure. We must always give our best, and that’s exactly what we did.
“Sometimes there are opponents in better form. But this season must be viewed as a positive one.”
Then, he reminded everyone of Inter’s stature in world football.
“Inter is a great club with a rich history,” he added. “We want to protect that legacy, and next season we aim to be protagonists in all competitions.
“Of course, we want to strengthen, but it also depends on what our rivals are doing.
We’re seeing an active market from other clubs, and we’ll be competitive.
“We’ve already completed some deals and are excited about the new arrivals and about Chivu, who has shown he has great expertise.
“Now it’s time for some rest before we prepare properly for the upcoming season.”

Lautaro Martinez recently spoke about one of the hottest topics of the summer.
Indeed, he revealed his stance on intense speculation linking Hakan Calhanoglu with Galatasaray.
In doing so, he aimed a dig at the 31-year-old.
“Let me reiterate that finishing second is not a failure in sport. Many of our rivals didn’t manage that.
“Lautaro’s comments, even if made in the heat of the moment, are significant in his role as captain.
“He’s responsible for reflecting the team’s desire to always give their all and to foster a sense of belonging.
“When a player expresses the desire to leave, the door will be wide open.
“That applies to Calhanoglu, whom we’ll speak with clearly next week. If we end up parting ways, so be it.
“But right now, there are no indications that will happen. Lautaro was simply emphasizing the importance of always giving your best in a team sport.”
