Today’s Serie A match between Fiorentina and Inter at the Stadio Artemio Franchi took a shocking turn.

Just after the fifteen minute mark, Fiorentina midfielder Edoard Bove collapsed unexpectedly.

The Italian international went down away from the action, and not under contact. Reportedly he was tying his shoe at the time.

It was immediately apparent that Bove had suffered a medical emergency of some kind.

Both the Fiorentina and Inter players were distraught at the realization of what had happened. Several players were visibly in tears.

Eventually, Bove was transported to hospital to receive further treatment.

Reportedly, the Fiorentina midfielder has regained consciousness in hospital.

The decision arrived to postpone the match after the shocking incident. With the solemn atmosphere and so many players in a shellshocked mood, no one wanted to continue.

Inter President Marotta: “We’re All Standing By Edoardo Bove”

Inter President Marotta addressed Sky Sport Italia after the incident involving Bove.

“The directors and coach of Fiorentina are at the hospital with him,” he said.

“I spoke with [Fiorentina Sporting Director Daniele] Prade a bit ago,” Marotta continued.

“I want to express how we’re sticking by Bove, his family, and Fiorentina,” the Inter President said. “Like the entire world of football.”

Marotta then explained that “The choice to postpone the match was spontaneous on everyone’s part.”

“We’re a community,” said the Inter President. “And when emotionally difficult things like this happen it’s normal for a decision to be made along those lines.”

“I saw how it had affected everyone, even the referee, on an emotional level. And therefore, it was a spontaneous decision.”

“I thought that was the right thing to say,” Marotta said.

“And then it will be Fiorentina who make further communications about the situation.”

“But I wanted to convey my thoughts on behalf of Inter, and the entire world of football.”
