Inter Milan President Beppe Marotta feels that the Nerazzurri have a deep enough squad that rotation matters little against RB Leipzig.
The Nerazzurri President spoke to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, ahead of the Champions League clash.
This evening, Inter take on RB Leipzig in the Champions League. This will be their fifth match of the “league phase” in the competition this season.
And Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi has not been afraid to make changes to the starting eleven from Saturday’s match against Hellas Verona.
The Nerazzurri coach has made a whopping eight changes to the team that beat Verona 5-0.
These include the returns of Hakan Calhanoglu and Lautaro Martinez, who were absent through injury and illness respectively on Saturday.
Then there is a raft of other changes to the team. Inzaghi has changed things up in every area of the pitch except for in goal.
Asked if the changes from Inzaghi are partly in view of next weekend’s Serie A match against Fiorentina, Marotta replied that “I’d say no.”
“Because this is a team of experienced players who understand that we’re playing every three days.”
“We face a different team every time out,” Marotta said. “And tonight we’re focused on Leipzig.”
“On Sunday we’ll be facing a team who have done extraordinarily well so far this season,” the Inter President said of Fiorentina.
“They’re in the same position as us in the table. They’re second deservedly.”
Inter President Marotta noted that “The squad is 90% the same as last season, and 60% the same as two seasons ago.”
“Inzaghi has players at his disposal who have grown a lot,” the Inter President continued. “There are starters, and then co-starter.”
Marotta noted that the Inter coach has “a very strong squad and a deep bench.”
“That’s how it has to be for top teams who are competing across multiple competitions.”
“Inzaghi can choose his team from a squad of 24 players who are capable of responding to our needs,” the Inter President added.
