Inter Milan have a clear pathway into the first team for striker Francesco Pio Esposito.
Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, report that the Nerazzurri are targeting the 2026-27 season as the right chance to give Esposito his chance.
So far, Esposito’s career has been on an upward trajectory.
The young striker impressed for Inter at various youth levels. This culminated in his starring performances for the Primavera or Under-19 team.
In the 2023-24 season, Esposito got his first experience in senior football. This came on loan at Spezia.
It was a season of growth for Esposito, who found his feet in Serie B. However, he was far from prolific in front of goal as he adjusted to his new surroundings.
This season, though, has been a different story. Esposito decided to stay in Liguria for another season on loan, and it looks to have been the right choice.
The 19-year-old has found the back of the net eight times. He’s been right at the heart of Spezia’s push for promotion to Serie A.
The question now is, what will come next for Esposito?
There is some transfer interest in the prolific 19-year-old. Napoli have reportedly made inquiries, although Inter have rebuffed them.
According to the Gazzetta, Inter have no doubts about Pio Esposito. They see the young striker as a player who has a future in a Nerazzurri shirt.
And according to the Gazzetta, that may not be that far away.
Esposito is not going to go straight into the Inter first team next season.
However, the Gazzetta anticipate, there is virtually no doubt that the teenager will be playing top flight football.
Esposito stayed in Serie B this campaign rather than going to a team in Serie A.
However, after the 19-year-old’s performances for Spezia this time out it is abundantly clear that he’s ready to make the step up to Serie A.
That could be with Spezia if they win promotion. But if they don’t, then Inter plan to loan Esposito out to a different club in the top flight for next season.
And then should all go well for Esposito next campaign, Inter are looking at the 2026-27 campaign as the right chance to hand him his chance in the first team.
