Inter Milan have opened talks to discuss a potential summer move for Parma centre-back Giovanni Leoni (h/t journalist Gianluca Di Marzio).
Inter’s new manager Cristian Chivu is looking to raid former club Parma to bolster the squad.
Chivu entrusted Leoni with a key role in the defence in the second half of this season, and he repaid the faith by helping Parma avoid relegation.
The Italian prodigy has also caught the attention of Serie A giants, including Juventus and AC Milan.
However, the Nerazzurri are confident that Chivu’s presence can help them sign Leoni, who is rated at around €30 million.
Inter’s defence needs to be strengthened this summer, with Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij both in the twilight of their careers.
The veteran duo are out of contract next summer, and the Italian giants will need to begin succession planning sooner rather than later.
Inter have also identified Valencia’s sought-after centre-back talent Cristhian Mosquera, who will cost around €40m.
The Nerazzurri are tracking Bologna’s Sam Beukema, but face tough competition from Serie A champions Napoli for his signing.
Inter are also in advanced talks to sign Leoni’s Parma teammate Ange-Yoan Bonny. The 21-year-old bagged six goals and four assists in Serie A last season.
He is a potential replacement for Marko Arnautovic, who has confirmed his departure from Inter this summer.
Inter have already confirmed the signings of Petar Sucic and Luis Henrique. They are also looking to trigger the €6m buy option for AS Roma loanee Nicola Zalewski.
