Inter Milan are lining up big contract extensions for captain Lautaro Martinez and midfielder Nicolo Barella in 2024.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Inter have already just announced three important contract extensions.
Yesterday, the Nerazzurri made new deals for all of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Matteo Darmian, and Federico Dimarco official.
The trio have put pen to paper on contracts until the end of 206, 2025, and 2027 respecitvely.
But Inter aren’t stopping there.
There are two massive contract extensions that the club are planning to sort out in the upcoming year.
The first new contract that Inter are ready to finalize is for captain Martinez.
The talks between Inter and the Argentine have been well-publicized.
The Nerazzurri have decided that tying their captain – whose current contract runs out at the end of June 2026 – down on a new deal until the end of June 2028, is a priority.
Martinez is a key player on the pitch for Inter. That’s putting it mildly.
The Argentine has been the Nerazzurri’s top scorer in each of the past two seasons. And he is well on track to do so for the third time in a row this campaign.
Martinez will sign a long-term contract extension until the end of 2028.
And the 26-year-old will receive a significant pay increase to around €8 million net per season. This will make Martinez, who inherited the captain’s armband in the summer, Inter’s highest earner by some distance.
And the Gazzetta confirm that a new deal for Martinez should arrive in the next few days.
A new contract for Barella won’t come quite so soon.
But the wait may not be that long. Inter want to make it official in the coming months – definitely within 2024.
Barella, like Martinez, is an absolutely key player in Inter’s starting eleven.
Therefore, the Nerazzurri want to tie the Italian international down on a long-term deal.
