Alessandro Bastoni believes that Inter Milan “flipped a switch” defensively after their 4-4 draw against Juventus.
The Italian international spoke to DAZN, via FCInterNews, ahead of this evening’s Serie A clash with Napoli. He insisted that Inter can prove that they have turned a corner this evening.
Last month, Inter and Juventus played out one of the most memorable Derby d’Italia clashes in recent memory, if not ever.
But for the Nerazzurri in particular, it was memorable for all the reasons.
In a fixture which often produces cagey, low-scoring matches, but Inter and Juventus scored four goals.
And the fact that Inter had led 4-2 in the second half particularly made it a bitter result for them,
On the other hand, Inter have kept a clean sheet in each of their three matches since then. They beat Empoli 3-0, and then got tight 1-0 victories against the likes of Venezia and Arsenal.
Inter also beat the likes of Roma and Young Boys by a 1-0 scoreline.
Therefore, the Nerazzurri could be thinking that the crazy match they had against the Bianconeri was more of an outlier than anything else.
This evening, Inter take on Napoli.
The Partenopei are currently top of the Serie A table. But Inter are just one point behind them.
Therefore, the Nerazzurri have the chance to go top of the table heading into the international break if they are to win this evening.
But Napoli’s place in the table is a testament to how formidable they’ve been this evening.
Beating the Partenopei will not be easy for Inter.
Napoli also return with a couple of familiar faces at the San Siro, in the form of striker Romelu Lukaku and coach Antonio Conte.
Bastoni argued that “That’s a double-edged sword, because they also know us well.”
“We know the great quality that their coach has. And Romelu as well.”
“But I could also list many other qualities that Napoli have,” Bastoni said.
The Inter defender made clear that “After the four goals that we conceded against Juve, which we can’t afford, we flipped a switch.”
“We want to confirm that this evening,” Bastoni said.
And as far as the Serie A title race, Bastoni said that “For as long as I can remember, there have never been so many teams fighting in the top places.”
‘That means that every match will be difficult in the league. As this one will be,”
