Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella shone against Parma, and capped off his top-class performance with his first goal in three months.
As TuttoMercatoWeb highlights, the player ratings for the 27-year-old were very positive, and not just becasue of his goal.
Prior to yesterday evening, Barella’s most recent goal in Serie A had come at the end of August.
That had been in a 4-0 victory over Atalanta. It was a spectacular volley from outside the box from the former Cagliari midfielder.
And once again yesterday evening, Barella showed that when he scores he generally does it in style.
The 27-year-old latched onto a long ball over the top from Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Mkhitaryan’s ball was perfectly weighted. And Barella did exceptionally well to stay onside and burst through the Parma defensive line with his run.
However, the Italian international still had a lot to do.
Barella chopped onto his right foot in the box to take Parma defender Emanuele Valeri out of the equation. Then he slotted past Parma keeper Zion Suzuki.
There was a lot more to Barella’s performance yesterday than just his goal, however.
The 27-year-old had a good first half. His endeavour was important for Inter reigning Parma in in the midfield battle.
However, it was in the second half that Barella really took the shackles on.
The Italian international really found the license to get forward.
And the goal, Inter’s second to give them clear daylight in the scoreline, was the culmination of that.
