Inter captain Samir Handanovic is in line for a rare start when former club Udinese visit the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Serie A this evening.
As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the former Slovenia international has returned to full fitness after a recent injury and could retake his spot in goal, with regular first choice Andre Onana rested.
Handanovic started the season as coach Simone Inzaghi’s preferred goalkeeping option, but lost his place in the team to new arrival Onana in October and has not featured since.
The 38-year-old is then expected to return to the bench when Inter face Porto in the Champions League on Wednesday evening, with Onana regaining his place.
Elsewhere, Lautaro Martinez may be rested against the Zebrette and be replaced by Edin Dzeko in attack, whilst centre-back Stefan De Vrij will come in for Francesco Acerbi and Denzel Dumfries will take the place of Matteo Darmian.
Handanovic began his career in Serie A with Udinese, after joining from Domzale in 2004, before moving to Inter in 2012. The veteran goalkeeper has made 447 appearances for the Nerazzurri.
