Denzel Dumfries says that his Inter Milan teammates “made me understand they needed me” against Barcelona in the Champions League.

The Dutchman looked back on the dramatic semifinal second leg win on the Nerazzurri’s YouTube channel.

Inter Milan will face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final next weekend.

The Nerazzurri are in that final because of a dramatic win over Barcelona in the semifinals.

Having drawn 3-3 with the Blaugranas in the first leg, it was hard to imagine that the second leg would be even more dramatic.

But that proved to be the case. It went all the way to extra time, with a Francesco Acerbi equalizer in stoppage time giving Inter the hope they needed.

Inter Milan had taken the lead in the first half through captain Lautaro Martinez.

Then, Martinez won a penalty right at the end of the second half. Hakan Calhanoglu scored it.

In the second half, Barcelona scored three goals, seeming to eliminate Inter with a dramatic comeback.

However, Francesco Acerbi scored in stoppage time to set up extra time. And Davide Frattesi scored the winner for the Nerazzurri.

Wingback Denzel Dumfries assisted Acerbi for that dramatic equalizer. He had also assisted Lautaro Martinez for Inter’s first goal in the match.

This had capped off a run of brilliant form from Dumfries after more than a month out with an injury.

“Coming back from injury and scoring two goals was incredible,” said the Dutchman.

“It’s a difficult feeling to explain. All the work, the fatigue, the desire to be back passes before your eyes.”

“But above all you feel the support of the team,” said Dumfries. “My teammates made me understand that they needed me.”

“It’s thanks to the team that I was able to express myself at my best,” he added. “Making my contribution, with goals and assists.”

Dumfries declared that “I’m really happy with the result.”

“And now the final awaits us. We hope that it will be the best moment.”
