Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez is glad to be able to help Argentina to succeed at the Copa America this summer.

Speaking on his national team’s official social media channel, via FCInterNews, the 26-year-old striker reacted to his brace in the team’s final group stage match at the tournament against Peru.

Martinez got his first start of the Copa America against Peru.

And the Inter captain marked it by scoring twice.

That took Martinez’s goal tally at the Copa to four goals after just three matches.

The 26-year-old had already found the back of the net in both of the Albiceleste’s previous two group stage matches, against the likes of Canada and Chile.

Both of those goals had come off the bench. And in the case of the match against Chile, Martinez’s late strike proved to be decisive in a 1-0 victory.

And Martinez hasn’t just scored goals for Argentina in the US this summer.

As he is for Inter, the 26-year-old has provided everything from defensive workrate without the ball, to linkup play with it.

Lautaro Martinez: “I Want To Help The Team” In Argentina Copa America Campaign

At the World Cup in Qatar, Inter captain Martinez was not able to score or assist a single goal.

o lost his starting place in attack to Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez in that instance.

However, the Inter striker did certainly have his say.

Martinez was the scorer of the decisive penalty in a shootout against the Netherlands in the round of sixteen. And he also came off the bench and set up Lionel Messi for a stoppage time goal.

Argentina won that tournament.

And for Martinez, the most important thing is that he can contribute. Whatever shape that may take.

After Thursday’s win over Peru, Martinez said that “I’m happy because we achieved what we spent the week working on.”

“I work to show the coach that I’m ready when he needs me.”

“I’m happy with this,” Martinez said. “I work to help the team.”
