Inter Milan wingback Tajon Buchanan is on the verge of returning to full training after picking up a nasty injury in the summer.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, as reported by FCInterNews, the Canada international will be available ‘very soon’ after overcoming a long-term leg problem.

Buchanan broke his leg while away on international duty with Canada in June.

The 25-year-old suffered a broken tibia while training for the quarterfinal match against Venezuela at the 2024 Copa America.

Unfortunately, the gravity of the injury forced him to go under the knife.

He underwent surgery to repair the fracture, with many expecting him to stay on the sidelines until 2025.

But the player’s determination to put himself at the disposal of Inter boss Simone Inzaghi has seemingly prevailed.

Buchanan returned to partial training on Monday.

Though he trained separately from the group, it was a clear indication that he was ready to step up his recovery.

Therefore, he could soon rejoin full team sessions.

His progress suggests that a return to match fitness is on the horizon, giving the team a boost ahead of upcoming fixtures.

With matches coming thick and fast, Buchanan’s recovery is a massive piece of news for Inzaghi.

Inter signed the Canadian wingback from Club Brugge in January.

However, they’ve yet to see their star’s full potential on display.

After taking his time adapting to the new surroundings, Buchanan started showing glimpses of his talent down the final stretch of last season.

But a summer injury hindered his progress.

Now that he’s close to regaining his fitness, there’s a chance he could dislodge Matteo Darmian from the starting XI.

Darmian has been Inzaghi’s first-choice at right wingback over Denzel Dumfries.

Yet, Buchanan could disrupt that order upon his return to the fold.
