Dani Carvajal’s absence has been a major concern for Real Madrid this season. The experienced right-back sustained a severe knee injury during a match against Villarreal earlier this season, ruling him out for the remainder of the campaign.
His injury has left a significant void in the team, forcing Lucas Vazquez to step in and handle the responsibilities at right-back.
While Vazquez has put in commendable performances, the demands of the role have placed immense pressure on him, highlighting the need for reinforcements in the position.
According to journalist Mario Coretegana in The Athletic, the veteran defender is aiming to return to action in time for the Club World Cup in June.
Interestingly, despite earlier claims, it must be noted that any chances of him featuring in the final games of the current season remain slim.
Although Carvajal’s recovery is progressing steadily, his return to the pitch before the season’s end seems highly unlikely, leaving Real Madrid to go through the remaining fixtures without their first-choice right-back.

In their attempt to address this issue, Real Madrid explored the possibility of signing Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold. However, such a move has not materialised, leaving Vazquez as the only natural option in the squad for the position.
While Vazquez has proven to be a reliable player, relying solely on him for an entire season raises concerns about the team’s competitiveness in all competitions, especially the Champions League.
Sources from Valdebebas have expressed the urgency of strengthening the right-back position, suggesting that the lack of reinforcements could hinder Real Madrid’s chances of success in Europe’s premier competition.
Right now, although discussions about potential signings continue, it remains uncertain whether any new additions will be made before the transfer window closes.
The current situation Real Madrid find themselves in underscores the delicate balance they must strike between coping with injuries and maintaining their ambitions across multiple tournaments.
The coming weeks will determine whether the club takes decisive action to bolster the squad or places its trust in the players already available.
