FC Barcelona fought out an electrifying 3-3 draw against Inter Milan in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals at the Montjuic last Wednesday. Several Blaugrana players impressed in this game, with Lamine Yamal putting on one of the best performances of his career.

However, the Catalans were also left unsatisfied with the fact that they had conceded 3 goals in a single game, which was also played at their home, and the Italians also deserve full credit for exploiting a key weakness shown by Barcelona in recent times.

This weakness is conceding from corners, as SPORT notes that the Blaugrana side conceded five goals from corners only in the month of April.

Two of these five goals came in the match against Inter Milan, with Denzel Dumfries scoring both of these goals from corners. The Catalans should have been particularly wary of this threat, as the Nerazzurri had also scored two goals from corners against Bayern Munich as they eliminated them in the quarter-finals.

However, Barcelona have conceded three more goals from corners against three other opponents as well in the last month. For instance, Aurelien Tchouameni scored Real Madrid’s second goal in the Copa del Rey final from a corner taken by Arda Guler. Similarly, Serhou Guirassy had also scored from a corner in the second leg of the UCL quarter-final tie between the Blaugranes and Borussia Dortmund.

The fifth goal came in the league game against Real Betis, after he scored with a header from a corner kick delivered by Giovani Lo Celso. This goal meant that the game ended in a draw, and thus the Catalans lost two valuable points.

Overall, this problem dealing with corners has emerged as a particular weakness for Hansi Flick’s team lately. Hopefully, the coach will be able to work on this issue as soon as possible and the team will not suffer from this weakness in the coming important games.
