Before kickoff, Frankfurt confirmed star forward Omar Marmoush would not play the fixture as he discusses a transfer with another club. However, that handed an opportunity for someone else to step up.

The opener arrived after Rasmus Kristensen evaded multiple players from the visiting midfield and went wide right where he was unmarked. Four Dortmund defenders could only watch on. The right-back then drilled a cross into the box, which a racing Hugo Ekitike bundled over the line for 1-0.

Dortmund were somewhat stunned after conceding but managed to control the ball over the remaining 70 minutes of action (70% possession). Unfortunately for the visitors, Serhou Guirassy and Jamie Gittens were not in their best form.

The Guinea international had a penalty claim fall on deaf ears before missing a glorious opportunity in the second half from point-blank range.

And despite time and possession on their side, Dortmund registered only two efforts on target. A second penalty claim from Guirassy was not awarded, leaving the bench thoroughly unimpressed.

Even the introduction of Karim Adeyemi and Giovanni Reyna fell short as Frankfurt's backline remained formidable and composed to hold on for victory. The win was secured when a defensive slip sent the hosts on the breakaway, and Oscar Højlund scored.

The result means Dino Toppmöller's side sit third in the table while Şahin's are 10th following their seventh loss of the season and third in a row.
