Aurèle Amenda faced the media after the first training session on Thursday and answered questions about...
… the training camp: “Everything’s going really well. We’ve done three very intensive sessions so far and it’s really hot, but that just comes with the territory in pre-season. We’ve trained well and the mood in the squad is brilliant. I’m looking forward to training and the games here in Louisville and then later in Philadelphia.”
… the upcoming friendlies in the USA: “Our first friendly against FSV Frankfurt [a 3-2 win in Frankfurt on 19 July] did me a lot of good as I played the full 90 minutes. I’m looking forward to every minute I get to play. We can’t wait to face Aston Villa on Saturday.”
… his fitness: “I feel really good and really fit. I trained a lot during my holiday and I was in Frankfurt for the very first week of our preparations. I feel I’m at 100 percent and I’m ready. My mind feels free and clear – the vacation really helped with that too.“
… his aims for the season: “First and foremost I want to stay injury-free, as that’s how I can help the team the most. Last season wasn’t easy for me because of my injuries. I want to assert myself and play. I feel fit. Competition for places is normal, we’ve got lots of very good players in every position.”
… head coach Dino Toppmöller: “He talks a lot to us players. We spoke frequently, even when I was injured. I’m the kind of person who wants to improve every day. The coach helps me a great deal in that regard – he gives me a lot of useful advice.”
