‘I’m happy that he is going under the radar’ – Roberto De Zerbi full of praise for Marseille captain Leonardo Balerdi | OneFootball

Leonardo Balerdi (26) is enjoying perhaps his best season at Olympique de Marseille. Captain of the Ligue 1 side, he quickly earned the trust of Roberto De Zerbi and has been repaying it this season through his consistent performances.

The Argentina international enjoyed a breakthrough last season, becoming more consistent after several seasons of erratic performances following his move from Borussia Dortmund. However, De Zerbi believes that Balerdi’s growth has gone unrecognised. The Italian manager sees that as a good thing.

“Balerdi? I hope that the big European teams don’t realise that he exists,” joked De Zerbi in a press conference, attended by Get French Football News. “I say every night before going to sleep that I am happy that he is going under the radar of the big teams. He is an extraordinary player,” added the OM manager, who will be hoping that the performances continue but without the hype surrounding them.
